Shigaraki ware is pottery made in Shigaraki Town, Koka City, Shiga Prefecture. Counted one of Japan's Six Ancient Kilns, it boasts a rich history spanning over 1,200 years. In 1976, Shigaraki ware was designated a traditional craft by the national government. The name "hechimon" comes from a Shigaraki artisan's term meaning "unusual objects." These vessels, like the various shapes created by nature and the individual personalities of each of us, possess a variety of expressions. Individual pieces may differ in size, color, and glaze finish from those shown in the photo. Enjoy the unique flavor of pottery.
