Karacho was founded in 1624 and is Japan's only karacho paper manufacturer that has been in business since the Edo period. Patterns are hand-transferred one by one from woodblocks passed down through generations onto Japanese paper. Karacho's karacho paper continues to be beloved in historical buildings and modern-day homes, as sliding door paper and wallpaper. Approximately 650 types of woodblocks are handed down, ranging from those with a global background in Eurasian culture that were introduced across the Silk Road to those uniquely refined in Japan.

KIRA KARACHO (Kira Karacho) is a brand produced by Aiko Senda, the eldest daughter of the 11th generation of Karacho, and her husband, papermaker Akihiko Toto, to carry on the tradition of Karacho for the next generation. In addition to spreading karakami to the world, we also create products using materials other than paper and in collaboration with others, with the desire to enrich people's lives through the beauty of pattern and color.
