(2) Wrap the cuff around the patient's arm, tighten the exhaust valve, apply pressure with a rubber bulb, set the meter pointer slightly higher than the expected systolic blood pressure value, loosen the exhaust valve, and measure the systolic and diastolic blood pressure values based on when blood vessel sounds begin and end. (3) Lower the needle gradually from the expected systolic blood pressure value, and the indicated value of the needle when you start to hear regular blood vessel sounds is the systolic blood pressure value.
