From the castle town of Hagi in Yamaguchi Prefecture comes Ohinata Natsumikan, a tart cookie made with summer mandarins. Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, was the first place in Japan to commercially cultivate summer mandarins. Summer mandarin fruits are processed into summer mandarin sweets, which have become a standard souvenir for visitors to Hagi. Hagi City, Yamaguchi Prefecture, still retains traces of the Edo period, and as you stroll through the charming streets, you can see yellow summer mandarins peeking out from between the earthen walls. In early summer, you can also enjoy the refreshing scent of summer mandarin flowers.
