The Mount Haguro Five-Story Pagoda stands amid a cedar grove in Mount Haguro, Temmuke, Haguro-cho, Tsuruoka City, Yamagata Prefecture.
It's said to be the oldest five-story pagoda in the Tohoku region and was designated a National Treasure in 1966.
It's said to have been built by Taira no Masakado.
The current pagoda is said to have been rebuilt approximately 600 years ago by Mount Haguro's chief priest, Daihoji Masashi.
It stands approximately 29.0m tall.
Its roof is made of unpainted wood, with a three-bay, five-story structure and a thatched roof.
Following the separation of Shinto and Buddhism in the Meiji period, Mount Haguro became Dewa Shrine, and the temple was demolished, but the Buddhist-style five-story pagoda remains to this day.
