■Made from fabric made using the "Bushu True Indigo Dye" method, a traditional dyeing technique from Hanyu City, Saitama Prefecture.
Kojimaya has been in business for 140 years in Saitama Prefecture. It is famous for its traditional handicraft, Bushu True Indigo Dyeing. Hanyu City is known for producing about 70% of the indigo-dyed sashiko used in Japanese kendo uniforms. Blue-dyed fabric has long been known as "kachi (victory) color," an auspicious color that was also used on samurai armor and other weapons. This auspicious sashiko fabric is used on the front.
Sashiko is characterized by the "blue stripes" that are created by dyeing the yarn before weaving it into fabric. The material has a rough texture, making it stand out and durable. The back is made of Cordura nylon, which is resistant to friction and does not transfer colors.
Available in three colors that go well with indigo: navy, khaki, and mustard.
■Made in one of the few specialized workshops in Japan
Founded 37 years ago, Hidewa Purse Factory is located in Kyoto, the ancient capital of Japan.
The workshop carries out all processes involved in the development and manufacturing of bags using metal clasps, from cutting to cutting out the shapes, sewing, and inserting the clasps. Under the supervision of Hayashi Kazuo, the first person in the bag manufacturing department to be certified as a "Contemporary Master Craftsman of Kyoto Prefecture," next-generation craftsmen carefully handcraft each bag.
・Note
